Review: Runaways, Vol. 7: Live Fast

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This series just keeps getting better. I really enjoyed the little plot twists in this volume, especially the one at the very end. More and more I am finding that my expectations for the story and the characters don’t match up with the reality of what the writer is writing, and I rather enjoy that little problem. Now to move on to the next volume in the story…or rather, go back and read the cross-over book with Young Avengers which apparently precedes this volume in the overall continuity.

Review: Runaways, Vol. 6: Parental Guidance

Very nice! I thought I had a twist figured out, and while I was in the neighborhood I was very wrong in my assumption. I rather enjoy being wrong when a story is as well written as this one proved to be. Happily they seem to have sacked the artist that I disliked so much from the prior volume and the artwork is back to normal. Some very good writing in this volume, and now it is time for me to pick up the next volume and move on with the story.

Review: Runaways, Vol. 4: True Believers

Runaways, Vol. 4: True Believers
Runaways, Vol. 4: True Believers by Brian K. Vaughan
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This volume had an interesting twist, and a revelation at the end that may change things significantly for the characters in the future. I can’t say that the revelation was unexpected since it has become rather standard fare of late, but it was handled quite well by the writer. The book itself is solid with visiting characters from elsewhere in the Marvel universe, and unlike what has happened in other books with visiting characters this time they were actually treated with respect and seemed to be true to character. More than enough to keep me reading…
