An interesting twist to this ongoing story. I can’t really offer anything on the writing or artwork as that continues at the same level as I have grown accustomed to seeing from this group. Top notch all the way around.

Written well enough, as I tend to expect from Geoff Johns, but it just a collection of stories of different characters rather than a truly cohesive story. It didn’t really capture me, and was quickly read and set aside.
Geoff Johns has a deft approach to handling long established characters, and his handling of Hal Jordan as Green Lantern is one of my favorites. He does a very good job of retelling the origin story while bringing it up to date. In the process he sets the stage for other events that unfolded, leading to Blackest Night among others. I don’t know whether this was written before all of that or was written after the fact, but I do like how well it ties in those elements.
While at first the story enticed me, by the time I had reached the halfway point of the volume it was starting to feel like more of the same, repeated with different characters. Honestly, it wasn’t long after that part that I became completely bored with the story and simply scanned the rest of the volume in the vain hope that it might change, only to be disappointed. After a disappointing time reading the first volume, and having the same reaction from the second volume, I find that I am less excited to try the next volume in the series.
You know, as a character I really hate Sinestro, but I love this story. Geoff Johns at his craft again, and he puts on a spectacular show. Sinestro is one of those characters that you love to hate, and as such he has a marvelously complex back story with all kinds of fun twisty places to entangle a plot. The very thought of Hal Jordan trying to give up the Green Lantern mantel and trying to live without being a hero is as strange as Sinestro trying to be a hero again. Except…nothing is quite as simple as that, and that is where Geoff really shows his skills. As much as I dislike Sinestro I am eagerly awaiting more in this line.
