One thought keeps running through my mind when I think about this book: This was a debut book from a new author?!? A nicely detailed setting with well fleshed out primary characters, and a plot that actually kept me engaged. Sure, there were some off moments, especially when following Jack, but the story worked well. What really got me was the attention to detail, and the little things like talking about the type of pipe some characters were smoking, or the type of tobacco in one instance. Sure, these are details that could have been cut without having any real impact upon the overall story, but these are elements that caught my eye and made it that much more enjoyable of a read for me. Will we see more adventures for these characters? There is the potential there with the way the book finished, and I know that I will be watching the shelves to see if anything new makes a showing.
